Victor Mote's Ancestral Family

This page is not intended to be a comprehensive genealogy, but rather a place to store information, documents, pictures, anecdotes, etc. as they become available. Links to documents and pictures on this page will probably be in PDF format, requiring a PDF viewer such as the freely-available Acrobat Reader. This is so that they can be annotated and marked up by those who wish to do so.

Please note: This page and section are woefully inadequate and probably always will be.

My father is William Damon Mote, born May 27, 1938 in Ohio. Died September 25, 2003 in Hamilton, Montana.

Mother

My mother is Mary Stedman Ledford, born November 16, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio.

Mother's Father

My mother's father was Davis Emmett Ledford. He was the second child in a family of five, all boys except the oldest: Dessie, Davis Emmet, Henry, Joseph Browning, and Charley (Charles?).

Henry was a merchant marine sea captain during WWII. According to Stan Ledford (my mother's brother), Henry had four ships torpedoed out from under him during the war.

  • Letter from Henry Ledford to Stan Ledford (PDF, 3.6 MB /3 pages) (my mother's brother), written March 10, 1946. This letter makes several interesting observations about the English, Welsh, and American peoples.

John Egerton has written a book, "Generations", about the Ledfords of Kentucky. Most of the book is about a different branch of the Ledford family than ours, but in Chapter 8, page 122 ff., a Charles Edward Ledford is mentioned. He is my mother's father's brother. His ancestry is described there back to the Aley Ledford who is the patriarch of the Kentucky Ledfords.

Mother's Mother

My mother's mother was Helen Palmer. See picture above with Davis Ledford.

Mother's Mother's Father

My mother's mother's father was Lylburn Thomas Palmer, generally known as L.T. Palmer. The three adjacent streets of Lylburn Road, Burton Road, and Gideon Road in Middletown, Ohio are named for L.T. and two of his brothers, respected members of that community.
