Victor Mote's Ancestral FamilyThis page is not intended to be a comprehensive genealogy, but rather a place to store information, documents, pictures, anecdotes, etc. as they become available. Links to documents and pictures on this page will probably be in PDF format, requiring a PDF viewer such as the freely-available Acrobat Reader. This is so that they can be annotated and marked up by those who wish to do so. Please note: This page and section are woefully inadequate and probably always will be. FatherMy father is William Damon Mote, born May 27, 1938 in Ohio. Died September 25, 2003 in Hamilton, Montana. William Damon Mote,. c. 1943: William Damon Mote holding Vicki Mae Mote, c. 1945: William Damon Mote,. c. 1955, high school graduation: Father's FatherMy father's father was (we think) born Victor William Mote, but went by Billy, and later changed his name to William Victor Mote. William Victor Mote and William Damon Mote, on a Farmall tractor, c. 1942: Father's Father's FatherMy father's father's father was Charles Vernon Mote. We think he was born
about 1880 and died in a yellow fever epidemic in Ohio in about 1910 or 1911: Father's MotherMy father's mother was Virginia Circle. The following is a picture of her at
an unknown date, probably the early 1930s: MotherMy mother is Mary Stedman Ledford, born November 16, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio. Mother's FatherMy mother's father was Davis Emmett Ledford. He was the second child in a family of five, all boys except the oldest: Dessie, Davis Emmet, Henry, Joseph Browning, and Charley (Charles?). Davis Emmett Ledford, unknown date, probably about 1960: (Left to right) Mary Stanage Palmer, Davis Emmett Ledford, Helen Palmer
Ledford: Henry was a merchant marine sea captain during WWII. According to Stan Ledford (my mother's brother), Henry had four ships torpedoed out from under him during the war.
John Egerton has written a book, "Generations", about the Ledfords of Kentucky. Most of the book is about a different branch of the Ledford family than ours, but in Chapter 8, page 122 ff., a Charles Edward Ledford is mentioned. He is my mother's father's brother. His ancestry is described there back to the Aley Ledford who is the patriarch of the Kentucky Ledfords.
Mother's MotherMy mother's mother was Helen Palmer. See picture above with Davis Ledford. Mother's Mother's FatherMy mother's mother's father was Lylburn Thomas Palmer, generally known as L.T. Palmer. The three adjacent streets of Lylburn Road, Burton Road, and Gideon Road in Middletown, Ohio are named for L.T. and two of his brothers, respected members of that community. L.T. Palmer, unknown date, probably around 1935: |
